Hyundai has provided a platform for its new vehicle development project, designed to save people in disaster conditions and enhance urban mobility.
Based on the model Hyundai brought to CES 2019, the new car called Elevate has four wheels with mechanical wheels. These feet can roll and allow the vehicle to move on rough terrain to running like a normal vehicle.
According to industrial design consultant Sundberg-Ferar, Hyundai's partner in the project, Elevate can crawl and climb walls at a height of 1.5 meters while keeping passengers safe in the cockpit.
Hyundai said it developed Elevate within three years.
With the ability to move across difficult terrain, Elevate is for rescue purposes.
"The car is very useful in many situations, in addition to rescuing people in distress; the car can help people have better mobility. Its ability is unlimited," Hyundai Vice President John Suh said. .
For example, an elevator trapped in the snow can stand up and move normally or will be used in other planetary expeditions.
Evaluating Hyundai's new project, market research firm AutoPacific said, Elevate is interesting because of the combination of transportation and robot technology.
For Hyundai, the project is also an opportunity to go far in the automotive market that is fiercely competitive and requires innovation.
